Eltrombopag is used to treat thrombocytopenia (low platelets in the blood) in patients with a blood disorder called chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Eltrombopag is categorized as a thrombopoietin receptor agonist. It stimulates the bone marrow to produce more megakaryocytes, large bone marrow cells responsible for platelet production. Increasing megakaryocytes leads to a rise in platelet count, which lowers the risk of bleeding
